What is Diversified Technique?
Diversified Technique (DT) is a chiropractic adjustment or spinal manipulation technique used by the majority of chiropractors. It is known as one of the most common adjustment techniques and used to restore proper alignment and movement in the spine and joints.
How Does Diversified Technique Work?
A chiropractor will make low-amplitude, high-velocity thrusts (using their hands or sometimes a table or block) to the spine to restore bio-mechanical function and correct any subluxation. A subluxation is a slight misalignment of the vertebrae, regarded in most chiropractic theory as the cause of many health problems throughout the body.
The shallow quick thrusts are usually followed by popping noises which are commonly heard with chiropractic adjustments. This technique is extremely helpful to restoring joint dysfunction and settling the spine back to it’s normal place.
The Benefits of Diversified Technique
Benefits of the diversified technique include:
- Pain relief
- Increased blood flow
- Muscle relaxation
- Stress relief
- Lowers inflammation
A Helpful Analogy
To explain how diversified technique works, think of this illustration.
If you are driving in your car one day and all of a sudden you hit a massive pot hole in the road at a high rate of speed, that pot hole may cause serious damage to your car. You may end up with a flat tire, your suspension may be damaged, or your wheels and alignment may be knocked out.
Without proper service after the pothole, the car may develop further problems cause the problems get progressively worse over time from every day use. Eventually, without being corrected, these problems can shut down the proper functions of the car and the car may become un-drive-able.
The point is that this same sort of “injury” happens to our bodies all the time. Someone may slip and fall. Someone may accidentally get injured while carrying something really heavy. Someone may experience a car accident or be a victim of whiplash. An athlete may collide with another athlete on the field.
All of these kinds of incidents can create a misalignment and cause the spine to be knocked out of alignment. Even worse, these problems can get worse over time if left untreated.
Signs of Misalignment
There are a wide range of signs that may indicate that your spine may need to be adjusted and realigned. The most common signs of subluxation are:
- Dizziness
- Balance problems
- Muscle spasms
- Tightness or weak muscles
- Pain
- Numbness or tingling
- Joint pain
- Tenderness
- Stiffness
